Stunning Blue Tile, Shower Bench, and Steam Shower Functionality Transform Centreville Primary Bathroom
Customer Focus
This Centreville, Virginia primary bath remodel completely transformed the space. The customers' goals were to update the bathroom to a more contemporary design from its traditional look and feel (original to the home). Their vision was to remove the large, walk-up bathtub completely and replace it with a massive walk-in shower with steam shower capabilities and a completely tiled bench at one end. The choice of the Kiln Blue porcelain tile for (almost all the) walls, ceiling, bench and backsplash was made deliberately to complement the bright white cabinetry and the warm brown tiled floor. Before the remodel, the bathroom had a variety of somewhat ornate columns and heavy cabinetry which dominated the room. Now, the space is clean, bright, and spacious with just as much storage as before, and, overall, the updates now better reflect the aesthetics and personality of the customers and gives them the relaxing, beautiful, and tranquil primary bathroom they envisioned.
Safety
This project began in the late stages of the global pandemic, and, fortunately, the homeowners did not yet live in the home during the remodel. All CDC health and safety guidelines were followed as necessary as with all projects. No injuries nor lost days were noted with this project.
Performance
One of the design highlights of this bathroom is the large, fully tiled bench at one end of the walk-in shower. It is designed so that one can comfortably sit and enjoy a steam shower akin to a sauna experience. Slightly unusual is the use of tile for the entire bench, rather than a large piece of custom stone.
Fairness
A special feature of this bathroom is the Wi-Fi enabled steam shower functionality (Steamist®). A challenge in the remodel was the inclusion of the steam shower package and components to the space-- space had to be reconfigured with the removal of the bathtub and expansion of the shower. The attached primary closet now houses a panel to cover the steam shower product.
Quality
The original bathroom was completely taken apart for the remodel, with plumbing fixtures for the shower area moved and reconfigured to fit the updated design. Careful placement of the tile, including a slight slope on the floor to lead to the drain, had to be done with immense care.
