Soothing Scandinavian Inspired Primary Bathroom Remodel in Herndon
Customer Focus
Our customers purchased their home knowing they wanted to stay in their Herndon community for the long term. Their primary bathroom, however, was a small, galley-like space that wasn’t functional for their needs and an update for it was high on their priority list. The homeowners envisioned a spacious bathroom with spa-like amenities, including a soaking tub, separate water closet, and a feeling of complete calm and peace when they entered. Inspired by the Scandinavian feeling of “hygge,” which is a lifestyle of comfort and warmth, our homeowners worked with our design team to create the bathroom of their dreams. By taking space from the adjoining hallway and reducing the size of their bedroom closet, the space was found to create a remodeled bathroom that suits our homeowners perfectly and is an oasis of relaxation at the same time.
Safety
This project began and was completed during the end of the global pandemic. All CDC health and safety guidelines were followed. In addition, no days were lost due to injury.
Performance
Our design team suggested that the floor tile, that looks like hardwood, be used also as an accent on the wall behind the tub and shower area. This draws the eye and creates design interest. It’s a beautiful way to add more warmth to the walls that are a neutral paint color.
Fairness
In order to create the larger bathroom that they wanted, our homeowners had to sacrifice space from their hallway and closet. The creative way in which the design was done is a testament to the vast experience of the MOSS design team, all of whom present several options to customers as they begin the design process with us. These homeowners understood that they had to use the space in the home as it was (versus creating a bump out or an addition, which was not an option) but the result was worth the reallocation of the square footage.
Quality
Having a private water closet allows the bathroom to be used by more than one person at a time without feeling cramped. The addition of floating shelves just outside the water closet also allows for more prep area as well as a space for décor and personal items to be stored. These personal touches reflect the overall design as well.
