This beautiful home in desirable Oak Hill, Virginia had the original builder’s grade kitchen when the homeowners purchased the property several years ago. Rather than do a simple upgrade to a few parts of the kitchen, Jenn and Raad knew they wanted to completely overhaul the space. The couple had a very specific vision for their gourmet kitchen remodel in Oak Hill, Virginia, hoping to transform it to match the “urban loft style” of the rest of their home. With an eye to a modern and almost minimalist design, the goal of the Moss Building & Design team was to bring our client’s vision to a reality – utilizing specific focus on clean lines, eclectic and uniquely fabricated fixtures, and a stunning use of quartz on both the massive island and the walls, among other incredible updates.

MOSS’s expert designers re-configured the space for better usage, replacing the original cabinetry, appliances, countertops, and the highly un-useable original island as well as changing the layout of the room’s footprint. In a unique twist, Jenn and Raad hoped to make the far wall of kitchen cabinetry appear to be one seamless wall – when in fact it houses the kitchen’s pantry, refrigerator, and freezer, as well as a garage entry door. MOSS curated a black fenix material from Italy as the perfect canvas to create a wall that essentially “disappeared”. To complete the illusion, all cabinet and appliance doors on the back wall operate via a touch system to open and close without the use of pulls or handles.

The kitchen’s massive island was a requirement for Jenn and Raad to be able to enjoy entertaining and time with family and friends. They chose to install quartz slabs on the island top and perimeter countertops as well as the walls (versus a more traditional tile backsplash). The quartz had to be measured and cut perfectly prior to transportation and installation in the kitchen rather than be cut on site in order to fit. The slabs that were cut for the island’s “waterfall countertop” also had to be cut very carefully to fit, and was a complicated and delicate process to achieve.
